Update on The Nerdies 2010 [Updated 16:10pm]
Shoh, what a week. I’ve had a great response so far with regards to sponsors. Please say hello to our ever growing Sponsor List:
- EightySix have offered one years free hosting plus a .co.za domain to both finalists
- Joyanne is offering a couples photoshoot [sadly, this is only for Capetonians - we're hoping to get a JHB offer too - so come on photog's out there!] which includes a disk of 50 edited photos.
- MerylPixelMagic has designed us one FANTASTIC logo, you can see it above
- Alerting The Media will hook us up with some Mowali & Sterkinekor merchandise for the top 20 finalists
- Jeanette Verster Photography aka @Jenty has matched @Joyanne’s offer to the Jhb segment of our winners
- 5fm Radio Station has come forward with Hampers for each of our two winners
- HyperText Media Communications have kindly put forth subscriptions to Connect Magazine for one whole year
- Poken Africa – Poken tokens for the winners & a few spot prize categories
- This slot could be allocated to YOU! Please contact me via DM on Twitter or email sheenagates@gmail.com
Thank you to everyone involved so far. The process of voting will be as follows:
Monday 25th Jan – Nerdynomnoms open. Public to nominate anyone in the online world via comments section of Monday’s post or DM to @NerdMag on Twitter.
Friday 29th Jan – Nerdynomnoms close. Tallying will be done – only nominees with more than 5 nomnoms will be counted. Auctions will open and stay open til end of competition – all proceeds go to charity.
Monday 1st Feb – Finals open – the public will vote [via poll] for the top ten finalists in both Men & Women categories.
Friday 5th Feb – Finals close – votes to be tallied.
Monday 8th Feb – Finalists announced. The public auction should be targeted towards convincing the judges who should be voted [i.e. bribery & corruption among the finalists & voters trying to out do each other by winning the judges hearts]
Friday 12th Feb – The Nerdies 2010 Winners will be announced.
Charity details & Judges announcements will be made soon, stay tuned. [we're still taking nominations for both a Charity & two judges - please come forward]
So, what you think so far?

Let the self whoring begin…on Monday!
Those are some awesome sponsors that answered the call
Now I think someone should get hold of Samsung or Sony and get some giant ass plasma TV’s sponsored.
And someone should just throw in a puppy for me. Just because.
Just got word from @Jenty (http://jeanetteverster.com) that she will match @Joyanne’s offer and sponsor a JHB photoshoot too!
Woo hoo this is awesome
COOL Prizes!
Now if only we can line-up a DBN photogra…. LOL!
hey B if you know anyone, im not above hounding them
Nice! 5fm just scored points in my book. I never thought this day would come.
er. Sheena. I know a DBN photographer.
*this comment is so total codespeak*
LOL
I need a code speak decryptor.. #xmas #giftidea
Hmmm, perhaps I should canvas this year, those are some good prizes!
Please pick SOS Children’s Villages SA – great synergy with WOW – World Orphan Week – 8th to 15th Feb.
• The association is a member of SOS – Kinderdorf International, the largest private welfare organisation for children in the world
• SOS Children’s Villages helps abandoned and orphaned children regardless of race, nationality or religion, by giving them a “family”, a permanent home and a sound basis for an independent adult life
• Each child is assigned to a new mother and a new family of between eight and 10 brothers and sisters, who live in their own house within an SOS Children’s Village
• Each house is run independently by the SOS mother who budgets and shops for her family.
• There are currently eight SOS Children’s Villages in South Africa (Ennerdale, Mamelodi, Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg, Mthatha, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit and Rustenburg)
To be fair, we did donate to a children’s charity last year. I’m kinda voting for the Wet Nose Foundation this year. Does anyone completely object?
I vote yay for Wet Nose
Wet Nose Foundation gets my vote!
An astonishing statistic indicates that every 2.2 seconds, a child loses a parent due to war, poverty, natural disaster, disease, AIDS and other such causes.
Today, there are 133 million children who have lost one or both parents, of which 15 million have been orphaned due to the AIDS pandemic.
Campaign im working on: Wear something WOW! – In aid of World Orphan Week 8-14 February 2010
Good synergy me-thinks –
ok my two cents worth…
@SheBee: i’m with you there dahlink. Wet Nose is an amazing organisation and it’s the furries turn this year
Hey if not everyone is feeling the furries, I’m also willing to give some obscure disease with a really epic name a chance.
I have to say, I’ll always choose humans above animals when it comes to charity…
