Nokia 6710 review…naughty!
Nokia have always been a firm favourite of mine, and the Nokia 6710 Navigator is no different. All in all, it’s a great, robust slide phone which is pretty simple to use, thanks to Symbian S60 OS and has all the bells and whistles such as …
- 5.0 Megapixel Camera with Carl Zeiss Lens which also includes AutoFocus.
- GPRS / Edge / 3G / HSDPA / HSUPA
- Bluetooth / Wireless
- 2Gb Micro SD Card
- Nokia Navigator GPS Software
During the two week review period, I really found it difficult to fault this phone. The OS is fast, navigation through the menu system is great, thanks to Symbian. The only thing I could fault it on was the slide, but, unfortunately, I can’t. The slide just feels great, solid and sturdy. Most slide phones that I have some across have been poorly made and very flimsy, like the N96. But Nokia have done very well to curb that and have produced a fantastic mechanism that feels great.
Now, the main point of the Nokia 6710 Navigator is, well, pretty much the navigation. Other than the addition of the navigation “button” situated just below the joystick, this phone isn’t all that different from the Nokia 6600 Slide. I am not a great fan of Nokia Navigation software, and have often found myself reverting to Google Maps to tell me where I am going, and, unfortunately, I found the same with this phone. My major issue is that searching for an address often brings back no results. I can’t really fault it in any other way, but that for me is quite a biggy. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? A simple search for Pfanner Road, Pinetown, South Africa yields no results. Last time I checked, someone lives in that road. But above that, the phone is great and if you can’t afford the N97 and you still want a sturdy slide phone, get the 6710 Navigator.
The camera is fantastic with 5.0 Megapixels and the Carl Zeiss lens with Autofocus is simply brilliant. Colours are vibrant, autofocus works well and the flash is bright.
I took this very simple pic on my desk using the Macro shot feature, looks good:
As far as other features go, they have also included some Social Media applications which inlcude Facebook, YouTube, MySpace and Hi5.
The Nokia Ovi Store is also proving to be quite a challenger to the Apple iPhone App Store, it still has some way to go before we get there. Unfortunately, for some reason, the 6710 has not been included in the Ovi Store list of supported phones. Very disapppointing.
So what do I give this phone out of 10? A star-spinning 8/10.

Whatever you do, don’t buy this phone. It has a major hardware issue with the zoombar, which impacts on the operation of the entire phone. Nokia is ignoring the problem, but it is common to most phones in the range. See the Nokia help forum for confirmation:
