vida e caffé aka Social Media Meeting Spot

Many of us have heard about Vida e Caffé, mostly through twitter and our “Social Media buddies” (I am coining that phrase). Many of us have, in fact, frequented one of these awesome cafes along our journeys. Unfortunately, I have not been one of those people, until now.

I popped on over to my local Vida e Caffé (Gateway Theatre of Shopping) and found it to be quite pleasant. After reading and seeing pics of the Cape Town branches, I wasn’t expecting too much in the way of scenery as there is only so much scenery that one gets in a shopping center.

After making my 15 minute walk from the office to the cafe, I dropped in at the counter and asked the guys what their recommendation is, they all very happily gave me their suggestions. What a fantastic bunch of staff, very happy, friendly and they got my jokes, more than I can say for some of my closest friends, hehe.

I settled on a Caffe Mocha and a carrot muffin. A little on the pricey side (compared to coffee and a muffin from my local Shell Garage) but oh-so-worth-it. The muffin was moist and fresh, with a fantastic crunchy top and the more-some typical carrot cake icing. The Caffe Mocha was rich and foamy with a fantastic aroma (oooooh I love that smell. I wish someone would invent air fresheners with a coffee smell. ARE YOU LISTENING, GLADE?) and it tasted great to boot. Now I am not a coffee connoisseur of any sort, so I won’t even being to claim that it’s the best coffee in the land, purely because I simply don’t drink enough coffee at different places, but what I can say, is that it tasted GREAT!

I enquired about wireless access, Vida e Caffés offer FREE wireless access, but unfortunately the wireless was in for repairs and was clearly unavailable. The guys were very apologetic.

All in all, great service, great food, great atmosphere and a great place for social media hookups. Especially since most of their marketing is done online, this could very well be one of the better nerd hang outs in our country. I will be back! They are even on twitter, check out @VidaECaffe .
