Top 5 games that are more fun when having a few drinks
If you liked last week’s article about games one would really only play when drunk, and never any other time, then you were probably left wondering what games one *would* play normally, but that are just so much more enjoyable and fun when playing them while drunk. After some extensive research, and several bottles of Jack Daniels, the results are in:
5. Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (Wii)
This game is already so unpredictable and tricky to follow and succeed in when sober, adding alcohol just makes it so much more fun. Sudden quick gameplay changes are hysterical to watch inebriated friends try to cope with. Even more fun if you’ve never played this game sober.
4. Worms (XBLA)
In fact, any of the Worms games will do. Not only will you laugh a maniacle Dr. Evil laugh when shooting the crap out of your enemies (friends! I mean friends!) little cute worms, but, depending on exactly how drunk you are, there will lots of bargaining and favour-promising going on with much “Please, please, please don’t kill my last guy!”.
3. Wii Sports (Wii)
Okay so the boxing is a bit disappointing as it’s 2 player only, but Wii Tennis and Wii Bowling are super awesome when drunk. Quick serious focus moments while trying to aim that tenpin bowling ball down the alley will be followed by tons of pointing and laughing when the ball hits the gutter within a second. The odd strike will surprise everyone though, so keep an eye on the booze-levels.
2. Little Big Planet (PS3)
Yes, LBP makes a Top 5 list again, as co-op playing is just so much more fun than free-for-all carnage, right? Right? Wrong! LBP will quickly become a game of hinder rather than help, even if it’s not intentional. Bonus tip: Try creating a level after the first bottle of Jack is finished. Make sure to save it and check what you created once you’re sober again.
1. Left 4 Dead (XBox 360/PC)
Yes, alcohol and zombies, a match made in heaven. Four player co-op (A pity that only two players per xbox, so organise a second XBox and TV!), with Jack Daniel as the 5th player in the background cheering you on. Lots of thrills and spills and scares, insanely fun to play while sober, and just so much fun to play while drunk. Don’t knock it ’till you try it.
Special Mentions:
* Rez (PS2) and Rez HD (XBox 360)
Rez was one of those underappreciated games on the PS2, and those in the know quickly snapped up copies and played it to death. It is essentially a trippy music rhythm game, with lots of bright colors and manic movement. Even though one might think playing Rez while drunk is a good idea, you’ll quickly find that the movements combined with pumping tunes will have you running for the big white telephone in no time.
* Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (XBox 360)
More lots of bright colors and insane movements on-screen, Geometry Wars would actually be fun and near-impossible to last one minute while drunk. A good choice if you’re left alone.
* Guitar Hero/Rock Band
Yes, you might think that playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero would be fun while drunk, but it’s not funny at all when you keep on playing for 5 seconds, lose the stage, and have to wait a few minutes before the next person gets to try again. Although, Rock Band does have the “Never Fail” option, which helps.
* Wii Fit
Heh, I haven’t played this myself, but I’ve seen some of the mini-games that come with the Wii Fit, I can just imagine those games being tons of fun to play while drunk. Don’t fall off the thing though!
* Gears of War/Halo 3/Fear/Prey/etc.
Yes yes, pedants, first person shooter games could be more fun when drinking, but let’s face it, it’s just not as much fun unless there’s gruesome monsters and/or zombies. For that extra fright y’see? So Prey might still work.

Worms!! Wheeeeeee!
Nice one Aubrey
