We’re running SA NerdMag Blog Awards.

logo1_shortWe’ve been hinting that there’s another competition on the way.  This one is big, it’s fun & very controversial looking at past experiences and observations in our online community.

We’ve already secured some awesome prizes and sponsorships and are just fiddling with the technical side of things, but I’d like to let you in on the secret.

NerdMag got tired of waiting around for others to do it this year, so we’re going to be running our own Saffa blog pageant.  Put your hands together for SA NerdMag Blog Awards 2009!

Much like we (me) did with #Nerdies09 it will rely on the public votes.  We’ll let you all in on the information and updates via our blog (follow our RSS feed now, if you aren’t already) and on Twitter.

In the mean time, here’s what you guys can do.  Give us some feedback.  What bugged you the most with the last couple of awards?  What would you like to see in our awards?  Any suggestions/ complaints/ issues are absolutely welcome.

So there you have it ;) Go forth and spread the news, dears.

    who’s eligible?

    what would the rules be?

    more info dudes.

  2. ExMi says:

    oh right.
as in the South African Blog Awards.

    coooooool.

didn’t know it was *that* time of year again!

  3. SheBee says:

Patience, young sky walker… All will be revealed soon. For now we just want you okes to know that we’re doing it. And we want you guys to be a part of it, so send through your feedback!

  4. ExMi says:

    HMMM…

no more poncey categories i say.

    and only proper blogs eligible.

  5. Goblin says:

I suggest Thought Leader be told to screw themselves ;)
And you know, some rules that ensure some diversity instead of 3 people winning everything? I’m tired of the predictability of these things.

  6. ExMi says:

    agree with Goblin.

also tired of the predictability of the winners.

  7. pfangirl says:

How about excluding blogs run by companies and media organisations. How can any one individual compete with the East Coast Radio blog when the DJs can mobilise their entire listenership to vote?

  8. Goblin says:

    Valid point that.

  9. SheBee says:

You guys are on the money! I couldn’t agree any more. Don’t worry, we will definitely not put media sites and blogs in the same category.

  10. Tertia says:

Ja, no commercial or group blogs, that’s unfair.

  11. Ash says:

    Awesomeness!
Looking forward to this competition :)
    Great idea SheBee

  12. SheBee says:

I can’t take the credit for it actually, it was all my side kick, Shawn’s idea, the clever man he is.

  13. Chris M says:

Surely we’re having a proper SA Blog Awards as well? I better contact Mr Cherry!

  14. SheBee says:

Oh nice, Chrispy. So we won’t be a “proper” awards then? :P

  15. Nafisa says:

The first thing that came to mind before reading the comments was the winners being predictable.

How about having whatever categories but breaking it down to “male” and “female” because in this environment, men are more dominant. I dont mean for every single category. “Most engaging blogger” for eg can be for both sexes? Something along those lines.

Give the girls a chance too ;)

  16. Glugster says:

I want to know why I never get nominated. *hint hint*

  17. JHBPRINCESS says:

I need to go and find readers, so i can win this.

    readers…readers…here readers….

  18. I reckon that their should be a category for new blogs and upcoming bloggers.

Is that a big enough hint.

  19. simonB says:

    Sounds interesting ;-)

Looking forward to see how this turns out.

  20. Great idea for a competition. Hope my blog wins. :P

You just don’t get any ‘nerdier’ :)

  21. SwissTwist says:

Do err.. us expat bloggers get a category too?? *grin*

  22. vincent says:

So can we set up a category in which http://www.moralfibre.co.za is the only blog in it? Come on I want to win something!

  23. Goblin says:

Jirre fok, dangle an award and everyone becomes a fame whore ;)

  24. Nafisa says:

It all comes down to one thing – bloggers are vain. You cant deny it.

  25. Glugster says:

Didn’t you know that all bloggers are attention whores?

  26. Goblin says:

Of course Glugs, why else would we do it :P

  27. Ash says:

A usual the sport bloggers are left out :(
Shame on you SheBee…Shame on You!

Exmi, you fall under Life Blog, chickie.

  30. angel says:

i like the categories you’ve listed.
are you going to make us a widget to get nominations via our own sites?

  31. SheBee says:

    Already on that Angelpie ;)

  32. pfangirl says:

Damn, as a pop culture blogger I don’t fit into any of those categories :(

  36. [...] just want to start off with a small disclaimer.  If you’ll notice, the title of these awards clearly state “SA NerdMag Blog Awards 2009″.  It has been brought to my attention that [...]

  37. evl says:

About those categories, what about just plain “best blog” ?

  38. Laura says:

There has to be a better way to choose than simple on votes! It is easy to get your entire company to vote for you when half of them dont even know what a blog is!!!!

I dont really have a constructive suggestion as to HOW to do it but it just seems to loose some of its meaning when you win an award that you paid people to vote for!

  39. urkyle says:

    Uhh, whats a blog.

Ag! who let this smuck out his cage

    no serious!

It stands for Bulls@#$ Less Obvious Grammer

    OH!
But I think I smaak this idea of awards, we might get a prize.
    YOu yeah right

  40. urkyle says:

Hey you check Moolang’s on this page?

    Nuh!

He wants to win or at least basd bird,

Lets go and let the ink out his pen.

    COOL!

  41. urkyle says:

    Hey you vhek his face

    Nuh

    All the colour drained out!

I still think the awards is a cool idea!

    Yeah you would!

  42. B says:

    So did I win?

  43. SheBee says:
