Things to do in Albion when you’re dead

fable2_boxshot_uk_largeSo you finished Fable 2 on the XBox 360, and think you’re done with the game? No no, you’re not done. Not by a long shot… Yes, perhaps you finished the main story line, but there is so much more to do after the main story line. Oh, and for those of you not quite finished with the game: Spoiler Alert!

Things to do in Albion once you’re finished with the main story line quests:

  • Get 8 perfect rounds in the Crucible
Yes, it’s possible, and not as difficult as you’d think. The trick here is to get your Shock skill up to 5, and your Raise Dead skill up to 4, and your Time Control up to 3. The trick is to raise some dead to distract your enemies, use Time Control to get the upper hand in getting into position, then Shock to pick off the enemies. Each round is slightly different, but the essence is the same. Distract, slow down time, massive damage while using the traps etc provided in the level. The last round with the Troll will really require a Master Flintlock Rifle of some sort, and lots of Time Control.
  • Find all the gargoyles and keys
Yes, this could be tedious to do on your own, so I suggest following the guide at www.xbox360achievements.org for “The Gargoyle” achievement, which has a nice list of where to find each of these items. One trick though, to do this task after you’ve finished the game, I really hope you chose the “Family” card, as the other two end up with you losing your dog, and thus making hidden treasure a chore. The reward for finding all the gargoyles and keys is not only an 25 point achievement, but also some nice legendary weapons and items.
  • Find all the archaeologist’s items
Another task where you’ll need your trusty dog. The archaeologist (a lovely lass named Belle) in Fairfax Gardens will send you on a number of chores. All of them will require your dog. OK, that’s not true, you can find the artifacts without your dog, but it takes long and is a guessing game where to dig. The reward for finding these artifacts is not only a fair amount of renown points, but also the fact that you end up exploring a big part of the map, and finding treasure chests, silver keys and gargoyles while doing so.
  • Get 175 points at the shooting rangeTrickier than it sounds. You’ll need a Master Flintlock Pistol or Rifle, and you’ll need your Dexterous Styles ability up to level 4, giving you Sub-Targeting. Aim for headshots, those are worth 3 points instead of just 1. You reward? Some arbitrary items, a Hero Doll, and the Red Dragon Pistol legendary weapon.
  • Become ruler of Albion
Not only is your reward a nice fat 100 point achievement, but you also get a fair whack of income every few minutes. The task? Buy enough property to own a total of 2.5 million gold pieces. Not that easy. The trick? Play house. Firstly, it helps if you chose the “Wealth” choice at the end of the main story quest, this gives you a cool million gold pieces, enough to go buy up a lot of properties around Albion and get a steady income every few minutes. This task will take a bit of time. To raise the value of a property is to decorate your rented-out properties with lots of furniture. Want to get lots of money quick? Raise the rent by 100%, yes you’ll become evil, but you can always fix that by eating Tofu.
  • Resurrect your dog
Ah, chose money or the needs of others at the end of the game and miss your dog? Yes, it’s possible to resurrect him. You’ll need the Knothole Island downloadable content though, which is free to download, but costs 800 mspoints if you want it to be useful, and to get your dog back. Knothole Island has a resurrection shrine which allows you to get your dog back. It’ll cost you 800 mspoints though. You decide if it’s worth it.
  • Get all three “End of game” achievements with only one play-through
OK, technically this is almost cheating, but it’s easy extra 200 gamerscore, if you’re into the whole gamerscore thing. Save the game manually right before talking to Theresa at the end of the game. Talk to her and choose a card, get the achievement, and switch off your console. The achievement will be saved, but the game not. Load the game, choose the other card, rinse, repeat.
  • Be bad, be really really bad
It’s worth seeing the response of the people in Albion (not to mention the cool horns that grow on your head) when you’ve become 100% corrupt and 100% evil. How do you get there quickly? Kill innocent people. But be careful, killing citizens in a town lowers the economy, but there’s a way around this. Kill only guards… Yes, killing guards will make your character evil, but not lower the economy. 100% corruption? Buy property and up the rent. Not strictly something that you must do, just something interesting. :-)

That’s it, I hope you’ll enjoy playing the game after finishing it, and yes, Knothole Island is worth the purchase, there’s lots of extra land to explore, some extra items, and you get your dog back!

I don’t have an XBox. And I haven’t played Fable II yet. But after reading this, I’m almost inclined to go out and buy both!

BTW – Do you get Fable II for PC? (Excuse my ignorance LOL).

  2. Aubrey says:

Nope, Fable II for XBox 360 only. But Fable 1 was on both original XBox and PC, and that was fun to play too, obviously not as awesome as Fable II, but still fun. :-)

I’ve got Fable II and fairly quickly finished it with a good guy rep. I then started again, going for the really bad guy rep. This game just never ends! What a fantastic game. Seriously, worth every penny! Oh and thanks for these tips. I’ll keep them in mind.

Loved the game on my first play through. I still have to grab hold of the DLC at some point but I’m now caught up exploring the Capital wastelands in Fallout 3. :)
